Wearable

Work by M.I.T. Year 2 & 3 Jewellery Students
16 - 29th November 2015

Recently, when dawdling through one of those ‘designer’ stationery stores that now pepper suburban shopping malls, I came across a teal-green gift box decorated with white words :

YOU TELL STORIES WITH WORDS. WE TELL STORIES WITH JEWELLERY.

The truth in the statement – that jewellers are story tellers – overwhelmed the disposable little box.
A piece of jewellery binds the wearer to the maker in a story built of ideas and materials, hands and tools, receiving and giving.
The jeweller starts the narrative and the wearing continues the story. The works in Wearable present stories made by jewellers. These jewellers, our students, fabricate the everyday and the rare to create unique objects that someone will cherish; that will become the shape of a story in someone’s life.
