I was inspired to make jewellery after looking to buy a ring and finding nothing that I felt comfortable wearing. Pacific inspired patterns that I had formerly applied to ceramic pieces were carved in wax then cast in metal and a change of career took place. In 1998 I opened Royal Jewellery Studio as a new venue for contemporary New Zealand jewellery in Auckland. I enjoy making simple pieces of jewellery using precious metals (including silver, gold and platinum) and coloured gemstones, combining different colours in one piece and adding contrasting textural surface finishes.
