Cheryl's fascination with combining the traditional with the modern started during her four year honours degree course in Dundee, Scotland. She is now based in Auckland and a member of Workshop 6. 'In my current work I have taken a contemporary look at precious stones by hand crafting and casting them in different materials and setting them in traditional style settings. In doing this I hope to question what makes a material precious. Can industrial materials, if crafted and manipulated to create a unique object, become beautiful and in turn valuable?'
