Mia Straka

Mia spent her childhood in her hometown of Pūhoi, adescendant of the settlers from Bohemia, before moving to Singapore where she lived for seven years. On returning to New Zealand, Mia studied jewellery design at Unitec, graduating in 2000 with a degree in Design. She has been a member of Workshop6 since 2008.
Mia’s intersecting practice uses traditional craft
methodologies as a basis from which to find her ownway of making. Exploring the body as a site, Mia uses form, technique, and symbolism to express a personal reaction to everyday experiences and to the physical and metaphysical structures around us.
