In 1988, Koji graduated from “Hiko Mizuno College of Jewellery” in Oita, Japan. After graduation, he travelled to England, and worked for a jewellery company there. In 1991 Koji immigrated to New Zealand, and soon after opened Form Gallery in Christchurch, all the while producing and developing his own contemporary jewellery designs.
Koji chooses materials such as silver, gold, pearls, wood and sometimes sand to create his work. Nature and the environment strongly influence his designs and aesthetics.
"In my work I want to achieve balance and harmony (Wabi-Sabi). I am also concerned with learning new techniques and improving my craft. My life concerns are balance and harmony in all things, especially between my two cultures, and applying this to all aspects of my life."
